“He gave $100,000 to a church in Greenwell Springs that was very effective. Thank you Donald Trump.”Carville, a Louisiana native, also complimented President Obama’s response and pushed back on critics who said the president should have ended his vacation early to head to the site of the disaster. He noted Obama was following Gov. John Bel Edwards’s advice.

“Our governor told the president, ‘I’ve got people doing things, I really would prefer that you not come because I don’t want to tick people off,’ ” Carville said.

“Thank you Craig Fugate and FEMA,” Carville added. “The federal response by everybody’s estimation has been superb.”

Obama on Tuesday visited the site of heavy flooding in Baton Rouge, La.

“This is not a one-off,” he said. “This is not a photo op issue. This is how to make sure that [months from now], people are still getting the help they need. I need all Americans to stay focused on this.”

Some urged Obama to cut short his vacation to Martha’s Vineyard last week and visit the natural disaster site sooner.

The White House on Tuesday rejected comparisons to President George W. Bush’s slow response to Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Trump and running mate Mike Pencevisited Louisiana on Friday after deluges there left thousands displaced and killed at least 13 people.
