On the Jurassic Coast, this village is a lovely collection of 16th- and 17th-century stone and brick cottages, many with thatched roofs – all well maintained and surrounded by beautiful flowers and other plantings. It’s a large and apparently prosperous village with a primary school, hotel, garage, library, etc. Most of the homes appeared to be occupied by full-time residents – not by weekenders and holiday makers that you might expect this close to Chesil Beach (the holiday caravan camps are up the road well out of the village). This is easily one of the prettiest villages in Dorset.
