Maria Alyotsjina of the punk band Pussy Riot was convicted in September for calling for demonstrations in front of an imprisoned opponent of the Russian regime, Alexei Navalni. She recently managed to leave the country, despite being under police surveillance.
The escape of Maria, who is seen as the leader of Pussy Riot, was big news. Dressed as a meal delivery boy, she managed to flee her house with the police on the doorstep. She left her phone behind so authorities could not trace her. With the help of friends she managed to travel to Lithuania via Belarus. Last weekend she performed on stages in Leuven and Amsterdam.
